Wild Park Poing

Wildpark Poing is one of the most popular day-trip destinations for people living in Munich and the surrounding area. On sunny weekends, especially families with children and animal lovers come by the thousands to this spacious wildlife park just a few kilometers outside the city. If you can choose, try to visit on a weekday – it is usually much quieter, and you can watch the animals more relaxed.

The park is very large and feels more like a long walk through nature than a classic city zoo. Most animals are native to Central Europe. The enclosures are generously sized, there is plenty of distance between many animal areas, and parts of the fenced grounds include small woods with a short forest nature trail.

For many visitors, the bird of prey show is the main highlight – but it usually takes place only during the warmer season. Another favorite is the bear enclosure: a few years ago, a large, very natural area was created for Scandinavian brown bears. It is one of the most impressive parts of the park.

Many guests also enjoy the storks. Both black storks and white storks can often be observed from very close range, sometimes without a visible fence in between. In addition, there is a huge picnic area and several large playgrounds for children. Overall, Wildpark Poing is very family-friendly. If you want to see the animals in detail, bringing binoculars can be useful.

Bird of prey show at Wildpark Poing: The well-known show features falcons, eagles and owls and is usually worth seeing. As far as we know, it typically takes place in summer (approx. April to October) twice per day (late morning and mid-afternoon). The show lasts around 30 minutes. In the past, the birds had a rest day on Fridays (older information), so it is best to check the current schedule on site.

News / young animals: In recent years, wild boar piglets, young donkeys and raccoon offspring have been among the visitor favorites. The park also added a large exercise and adventure playground for children, which is a big plus for families.
