Cheap hotels and pensions in Munich

A&O Hotel and Hostel

My absolute favourite for cheap accommodation in Munich are the houses of the chain A&O. On the one hand you find single rooms and double rooms. These can definitely keep up with standard hotels. The furnishing is mostly practical and new. The rooms have their own bathroom, TV with many programs etc. But you can also share rooms with others, like in a youth hostel. Mostly the prices at A&O in Munich are cheaper than in similar hotels. The chain currently (early 2016) operates 3 large hotels and hostels in Munich.

All three are conveniently located for tourists. The house at the central station has probably the best location, but is often fully booked. We are often in the newest of the three houses in Laim (about 5 S-Bahn stations from the center and then 400 meters on foot). If you are a member of the ADAC, you even get a 12% discount at A&O! It is not uncommon for a single room to cost well under 50 euros, which is very reasonable for Munich.       >>> Book this hotel on Booking.com

House International

My absolute favourite among the simple and cheap accommodations in Munich. Haus International is located in Schwabing and can be reached by underground and 10 min walking or tram and 2 min walking. It is a great accommodation. There are single rooms, double rooms and dormitories. There are rooms, depending on the season, already for under 30 Euro, cheaper than anywhere else in Munich. Breakfast buffet is included. Especially the rooms without private bathroom are very cheap in the Haus International. The staff is young, friendly and efficient. WLAN works well in the whole house.   >>> Book this hotel on Booking.com

Hotel Uhland

Small family hotel near the Theresienwiese, the meadow where the Oktoberfest takes place. About 15 minutes walk from the main station or 1-2 minutes from the underground station Theresienwiese. Due to the location, of course, early booking is necessary during the Oktoberfest season. Normal prices from 75 Euro for a single room or 95 Euro for a double room with breakfast and parking ( 2017). During the Oktoberfest season the prices are of course much higher.  >>> Book this hotel on Booking.com

Hotel Senefelder

One of the cheapest rooms near the central station of Munich. Single room including breakfast already from 40 Euro.More information on the homepage. In the same street (Senefelderstraße) and the streets in the surrounding area (Schillerstraße, Goethestraße, Bayerstraße) there are some other simple hotels and guesthouses with similar price levels. If you are looking for a cheap room in Munich without a reservation in Munich, you should look in this area. One leaves the main station, turns right and gets to the area described above in 1-2 minutes.  >>> Book this hotel on Booking.com

Hotel Jedermann

An alternative in the station district to the Hotel Senefelder described above. It is located about 200 meters from the main exit of the main station. Single room for 55€, double room for 75€ (2014, including WLAN). Further information, current prices etc.   >>> Book this hotel on Booking.com

Alternatives

Book your room on the Internet: Nowadays, a large number of guesthouses and hotels are booked on the Internet. The prices are usually cheaper than if you book directly at the hotel. It is important to find the right website, which offers all accommodations, even the cheap ones.  >>> Book hotels in Munich on Booking.com

Those who want to stay longer: it is not easy to find a flat or apartment in Munich for a few weeks or months. Although the housing shortage has improved a little, there is still much more demand for apartments than there are offers. Prices for a 1-room apartment on the free housing market usually start at 600 €, not infrequently 900 or 1200 € are also demanded!

For a placement fee, shared accommodation centers in Munich can help you find short-term and long-term accommodation. The following three companies make sense:

Munich city tour on the subject of the Third Reich

From our point of view a well done and interesting city tour: Munich was the beginning of the Nazis, Adolf Hitler lived in the city for many years. Munich is known for the resistance of the White Rose group. At the end of the war the city lay in ruins. Start of the tour at Marienplatz, guided tour on foot, duration about 2.5 hours.
