Veröffentlicht von The Botanical Garden in Munich is one of the largest and most important botanical gardens in Germany. When around 1910 the small old botanical garden near Karlsplatz in the centre of Munich became too small, the new, much larger facility (about 20 hectares) was built. It is open all year round. Especially the greenhouses with tropical and subtropical plants are also worth seeing in winter. The signage and descriptions are excellent. Many thousand signs in the park describe the individual plants, their origin and much more.
Munich Botanical Garden Admission fees 2024
Unfortunately, the entrance fee to the Botanical Garden has risen somewhat in recent years. Nevertheless the visit is still inexpensive. Now (2020) adults pay 5,50 Euro entrance fee. Children under 18 years do not have to pay any entrance fee. The Munich Botanical Garden is definitely worth a visit. In a self-service restaurant (price level medium) with a nice terrace in the park, food and drinks are available. Annual tickets are also available for 48 euros. (Status of information May 2020).
The great City-Tour-Card reduces the admission price by 1.50 euros.
Tips: On about every second Sunday at 10 a.m. there is a guided tour of the Munich Botanical Garden (duration about 1 hour). This is very interesting, but costs a little extra. Usually the guided tours through the Munich Botanical Garden are on the 2nd and 4th Sunday of the month. The modern audio-guide devices, which can be rented at the entrance for 3 Euros, are also very helpful.
Opening Hours 2024 Botanical Garden Munich
The gardens and greenhouses are open daily. The only exceptions are Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve. The opening hours start at 9 am all year round. In the summer the plant closes at 7 pm, in the rest of the year between 4.30 pm and 7 pm, depending on the darkness. As the greenhouses always close half an hour earlier, it is advisable to visit them first.

Directions Botanical Garden Munich
The tram line 17 stops not far from the main entrance (every 10 minutes from the central Karlsplatz and from the main station). The Botanical Garden is actually part of the Nymphenburg Palace Park, which is worth seeing. The second entrance to the botanical garden can be reached on foot through the palace park. Address main entrance: Menzinger Straße 65.

Jewellery Farm
Not far from the main entrance is the Schmuckhof. In spring and summer flowers of all colours and sizes bloom in it.
Greenhouses
The tropical and subtropical greenhouses are among the most interesting in Europe. The approximately 10 rooms are divided into different plant groups. While only cacti grow in one room, orchids, palms, water plants, ferns and much more thrive in others. In each room the temperature and humidity is adapted to the countries of origin.
Alpinum
An absolute highlight in the Botanical Garden is the Alpinum. Here, on an artificial mountain, hundreds of different mountain plants from the native Alps and other regions of the world grow.
Other departments
Besides the parts of the garden described above, the following is also worth seeing:
– The coniferous and deciduous forest (arboretum): Almost all known native trees and also many non-European trees can be found here.
– The great rose garden delights many visitors.
– The fern gorge is filled with many ferns from different continents of the world.
– Very interesting is the part with the native, protected plants.
