Our tip: Sightseeing tour through Munich |
A great possibility to see a lot of Munich in 1-2 days are the so called Hop On / Hop off buses. These are red double-decker buses in British style, which drive on 3 different routes through Munich. You can get off at many stops and continue with a later bus. Tickets for the hop on / hop off buses are much cheaper on the Internet at Getyourguide than on site. More information: Click here |
Many stalls are now permanent shops, especially the butchers and snack bars. In the snack bars you can find good Bavarian fast food (or better Bavarian snack). In recent years, many stalls with organic products have been added to the most famous market in Bavaria. Not all visitors love the horse butcher and the shop with the food fish in a tank that is still alive before the purchase. However, these two well-known shops have a long tradition.

How to get to Viktualienmarkt: Stop Marienplatz (all S-Bahn lines from Munich and the underground lines U3 and U6). Not much further is the S-Bahn station Isartor from the market. Parking is very difficult and expensive in the area. The Viktualienmarkt is located in the heart of Munich. It is therefore not recommended to come by car.
Munich city tour on the subject of the Third ReichFrom our point of view a well done and interesting city tour: Munich was the beginning of the Nazis, Adolf Hitler lived in the city for many years. Munich is known for the resistance of the White Rose group. At the end of the war the city lay in ruins. Start of the tour at Marienplatz, guided tour on foot, duration about 2.5 hours. |
Opening hours Viktualienmarkt: It is a daily all-day market – most stalls and shops are open from Monday to Saturday from early morning to evening. Some of the shops even have business hours until 8pm. The beer garden is open even longer in summer. However, as with most weekly markets, it is best to come in the morning. Then the goods are fresh and the offer is the largest. The city market is closed on Sundays and public holidays.
